Hey everybody!
With the polling days just over a week away, I thought it would be good to reflect on what has been a mad few weeks. Next week, I'm sure, will be the same.
Hustings took place all over the city. Students were invited to listen to what each candidate had to say and then pose their own questions. I was always aware of the various different types of student in DIT but one thing that became very clear to me en route from Rathmines to Mountjoy Square was that there is an equally vast amount of problems affecting DIT students. Some of these problems are specific to one DIT site. For example, the facilities in Portland Row can only be described as decrepit. On the other hand, some issues apply to most DIT students. Most notably, and this is directly linked to a main point of my manifesto, is the lack of awareness among students for the contents of the General Assessment Regulations and the Student Charter.
There will be one last chance for you to see a formal Q&A session this Tuesday in the Courtyard in Aungier St. at 6pm. Candidates will also be tested on their knowledge of DIT policy and national issues.
I made the decision to run for VP Academic & Student Affairs over the summer. Since then, I approached various people about it for advice and also to seek their help. So far, I'm very proud of the impact that the campaign has made. I genuinely believe that my message is getting across. Whatever happens on March 13th and 14th, students all over DIT are becoming more aware of their rights and entitlements in the classroom. I'm also very, very grateful for all of the help that I have received so far. There are too many people to name right now but major kudos have to go to my good friend Gareth Walker-Ayers. He's played a blinder so far and his work on the parody of the classic 'Downfall' movie has proven immensely popular.
As we draw nearer to the opening of the polls, I hope to meet many more DIT students along the way. Next week is the calm before the storm that will be March 13th and 14th. I will try update again next weekend and share some of my thoughts ahead of the madness.
In the meantime, stay classy and remember to GiveGlenn1 on March 13th and 14th.
